One more week until vacation! I hope all of you have a restful and enjoyable holiday.
In writing, we've finished up our turkey expository pieces. Now, we're working on writing explanatory/how-to pieces. We started our unit by asking the children to independently write directions for making a peanut butter and jelly--or a sunbutter and jelly--sandwich. Then, we asked volunteers to read aloud their directions. Mrs. Bergeron acted out the directions using props. In the photo above, you can see that she is pretending to scoop jelly out of the jar with her hands, because the direction-writer forgot to mention utensils! The students giggled loudly and quickly realized that you have to be VERY SPECIFIC when writing directions. For the next week, we'll be working on making paper snowflakes and then writing how-to pieces about how they were created. We're continuing to work on multiplication in math. We've learned about the Distributive Property of Multiplication and the Associative Property of Multiplication. We've worked on multiplying three factors. We've also been solving two-step word problems using addition, subtraction, and multiplication. After vacation, we'll start our division unit. In reading, we've started to explore nonfiction text features. We've been reading nonfiction articles about a variety of topics.
One more week until vacation! I hope all of you have a restful and enjoyable holiday.
