Thank you for taking the time to stop by and see what we've been doing in class!
During math, we've been working on place value concepts. This Place Value Bullseye game has been a fun practice activity. Students spread their googly eyes around the target, then wrote the number they had created in standard form, expanded form, and word form. During reading, we've been focusing on the reading strategies of determining importance, visualizing, and predicting. We read Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann and discussed character traits. Next, we'll be reading Nate the Great: San Francisco Detective by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat and learning about making inferences. During writing, we spent some time reviewing subjects and predicates, strong descriptive words, and paragraph-writing. Each child wrote a paragraph about what would happen if everyone interrupted everyone else. The inspiration for our paragraphs came from the book My Mouth is a Volcano by Julia Cook. Currently, we're reviewing three types of writing: narrative, expository, and persuasive.
